Tans: An Edgy Sans Serif From New Typographer Fabian Dornhecker - 1

We love introducing new type designers and we’re excited that Fabian Dornhecker has joined YouWorkForThem!

Fabian studied communication design in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he took a particular interest in lettering and type design. Fabian ended up getting his bachelor’s degree in type design, later finding work as a graphic designer. While his workdays are filled with all things graphic design, he enjoys drawing his own typefaces during his spare time at home.

His very first font release is Tans, an edgy sans serif with a friendly and approachable demeanor. When it came to designing Tans, Fabian wanted to create a contemporary and clean sans serif, but one that didn’t carry itself with coldness or indifference. He wanted to keep it warm and approachable, yet as the design developed into its bolder weights, it went in a heavier and edgier direction.

Available in seven weights that include Light, Regular, Medium, SemiBold, Bold, ExtraBold, and Heavy, with corresponding italics for each, Tans works best in small to medium-sized projects. It’s well suited to a variety of applications including bold captions, subheadings, body copy, web copy, mobile applications, corporate communications, white papers, presentations, and infographics.

For greater versatility, Tans offers a variety of OpenType features that include case sensitive forms, discretionary ligatures, standard ligatures, numerators, denominators, fractions, scientific inferiors, superscript, slashed zero, oldstyle figures and tabular figures. “The extensive OpenType LatinPro character set allows multilingual type setting and the various OpenType features along with the set of arrows and circled numbers are suited perfectly for editorial use,” Fabian said. “Two stylistic sets let you switch between alternate characters and easily access special glyphs.”

Tans extends multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, Dutch, Afrikaans, and Basic Greek for great accessibility in design projects aimed at an international audience.

Since Fabian Dornhecker is brand new to YouWorkForThem, he has just one product in his portfolio as of this writing. We’re excited to see his first release and we’re looking forward to seeing more of his work in the future!
