Based in Lisbon, Natanael Gama is the graphic designer and typographer behind the foundry, Ndiscovered. It’s an aptly named studio, given that typography was an undiscovered avenue for Natanael, at least until he studied graphic and multimedia design in the late 2000s. Type design began as just a fun thing to explore and play around with back in those early days, but it led to a passion he would eventually build a solid career upon.
Natanael’s very first font, Exo, was released in 2011 and became a part of the Google Fonts Library. In fact, it is among the top 100 most-used fonts found on the internet. Following Exo’s release, Natanael would go on to continue building his own type library while also balancing commissioned bespoke type design jobs along the way. While some may say it’s hard to take a hobby and turn it into work without the activity losing all of its “fun” in the process, Natanael has found that his love for type design has not waned since establishing his career in the field.
His work has been used by considerably notable international brands, including Netflix, Fifa, Lego, and Google, just to name a very select few. As a co-founder of Ndiscovered and an invited teacher at Skillshare, Natanael’s days are packed doing the work he loves most in the world.
One of his more recent releases is Bruta Pro, a massive contemporary sans serif type family. Designed to be “the Swiss army knife of your font library,” Bruta Pro is an extensive collection of 64 complete fonts to suit an incredible variety of project types and themes.
Bruta Pro takes a modernist approach to grotesque font architecture, offering a neutral and unbiased tone to every message it conveys. This characteristic makes it especially ideal for any design project aimed at serving objective correspondence to an audience, including news media and corporate communications. Bruta Pro is fair and impartial; it’s a clean and contemporary type design that simply gets the job done. Whatever you’ve got to say, Bruta Pro will help you say it with absolute clarity and focus.
Bruta Pro offers its modish architecture in four styles: Regular, Compressed, Condensed, and Extended. Each of those styles is available in eight weights that include Thin, Extra Light, Light, Regular, Semi Bold, Bold, Extra Bold, and Black, with corresponding italics for each. The range of styles and weights makes Bruta Pro a perfect choice for a limitless number of applications, including bold headlines, editorials, displays, signage, posters, advertising, magazine spreads, publishing, corporate correspondence, infographics, presentations, logos, websites, and mobile applications. The range of weights and widths makes Bruta Pro an especially great choice for branding and identity projects that need design cohesion across multiple channels.
This font family shines even brighter when you look at its long list of OpenType features, which include capitals to small caps, numerators, denominators, fractions, discretionary ligatures, standard ligatures, ordinals, subscript, superscript, oldstyle figures, tabular figures, small caps, and stylistic alternates. Bruta Pro even includes a hundred emojis for adding quick design accents, icons, or focal points. Its multilingual support is extensive, too, covering Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, Dutch, and Afrikaans for global accessibility.
