Michael and Dara Gilliam are a husband and wife team of creatives and adventurers in Oklahoma. Together, they established Flycatcher Design, a studio that not only features Michael’s typography, but enables the duo to provide a number of services that include web design, logos and brand identity, photography, videography, social media development, and event promotion. True creatives that they are, they also operate a separate home art business, Scissortail Lettering, which alongside Flycatcher Design, is a part of a much larger collaborative group called Midwest Creatives.
Michael specializes in handcrafted fonts that carry themselves with a lot of character and personality. He goes to great lengths to include swashes, ligatures, alternate letters, and anything that will add a little “something extra special” with every new release.
One of Flycatcher Design’s more recent releases is Katastrophe, a handwritten script font that is the epitome of all things wild and free. Hurried, passionate strokes are hallmarks of Katastrophe, a font so vibrant and exuberant it adds excitement to everything it touches.
This signature-style font adds instant personality, working beautifully in everything from displays and advertising, to greeting cards, apparel, merchandise, posters, social media imagery, web design, logos, and product packaging. It works well on its own as a focal point of a design, yet it pairs beautifully with simpler serifs and sans serifs, as well.
Katastrophe is available with its regular character set, and it also offers a complete alternate set for greater versatility. To craft truly unique words and phrases, designers can mix and match letters from both sets, adding a more authentic looking handwritten effect to their finished work.
Katastrophe extends its multilingual support to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, and Pan African Latin languages for global accessibility.
Flycatcher Design currently offers more than 25 products through YouWorkForThem, an eclectic blend of handwritten scripts and quirky display fonts to suit a variety of design projects, themes, and styles.
