Doing their level best to continually extend the reach of Latin American typography in the world of graphic design, LatinoType delivers some of the highest quality type designs available on the market today. Established as Chile’s first digital type foundry in 2007, LatinoType is operated by Miguel Hernández, Luciano Vergara, and Daniel Hernández.

The men behind the foundry are experienced graphic designers in their own right, giving them a keen insight into the needs of graphic designers and ultimately impacting the work they produce. To that end, LatinoType masterfully imbues its South American influences within lettersets that offer high flexibility and great affordability.

Miguel, Luciano, and Daniel believe in supporting the efforts of other typographers, regularly conducting workshops that allow them to share their own experiences while educating a flourishing generation of Latin American graphic designers.

One of LatinoType’s most recent releases is Atlan, a geometric sans serif designed by Jorge Cisterna and Daniel Hernández.

The inspiration for Atlan began with Rudolf Koch’s Kabel, a 1927 release that rode the rising tide of geometric sans serifs during that time period. With Atlan, Jorge and Daniel wanted to capture and celebrate the expressiveness of similar designs from the 1920s while balancing that architecture with contemporary design aesthetics.

This reinvention has resulted in a family of eight weights that include Thin, Extra Light, Light, Regular, Semi Bold, Bold, Heavy, and Black, with corresponding italics for each. Atlan offers extensive design versatility and perfect legibility, finding itself quite at home in everything from bold displays, signage, headlines, advertising, branding, logos, editorials, body text, publishing, product packaging, web content, and mobile applications.

Atlan provides case sensitive forms, fractions, standard ligatures, and stylistic alternates for additional flexibility. Multilingual support extends to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, Dutch, and Afrikaans for incredible worldwide accessibility.
