The YouWorkForThem Blog

Summer’s here (for those of us in the northern hemisphere) and the time is right, and as always we’ve been busy behind the scenes here at YouWorkForThem. We’ve got some cool new features, tweaks, and general change-for-the-better to announce, so buckle up and watch the blinking lights.

Ever since the “@font-face” CSS declaration, font providers have been scrambling to implement options, and let’s face it–most have been less than ideal. We’ve all tried to figure out confusing lists of unnecessary options, when all we wanted was some quick design options. And more than once we’ve been confronted by subscription payments and intrusive tracking code. YouWorkForThem says the heck with all that. We think it’s all about two things: design and efficiency.

And without further ado, we are proud to announce the most affordable, efficient, easy-to-use WebFonts system anywhere online–no bloated javascript tracking code, no confusing and unnecessary options, no subscriptions, no stalking. Because unlike some of our competitors, we’re not in it to milk more money out of our customers. We are only concerned about good design, ease of use, and affordable prices.

YouWorkForThem offers the most beautiful and functional font designs in the world, and our WebFonts selection is no exception. We offer over 10,000 WebFonts, drawn from our massive catalog, and they couldn’t be easier to use–simply download and upload–that’s it. As always we are focused on design and the designer, and our Basic price is targeted at the design community, covering 50,000 monthly pageviews for 1x the desktop price, including free updates. That’s the most affordable price you’ll find.

Beautiful WebFonts, affordable prices, easy to use. YouWorkForThem does it again.

updates

We have some good news for those of you who purchase items from our site.

This past weekend we updated our system to no longer need those pesky download codes! Now when you go to download your items, you can instantly grab your purchased items from the receipt, no need to enter the code to access the file. This should help speed up the process and make your life that much more easier.

2) The stock video section is currently getting a complete overhaul. We will now be selling the stock videos as individual items for one low price. This should make it easier for you to drill down and purchase the exact clips you may want. Keep an eye on this section, in the coming weeks we will be releasing numerous new videos.

poor visibility; weather again unsettled today. surreal rocks and riven lowlands, valleys fog-shrouded. frightening depths, and emptiness. rarity of air is noticeable. what are you looking for in this hostile stretch? Came across this tonight, super nice work.

I am sure some of you web nerds out there have heard of Media Temple. If you haven’t, well they are a super nice web hosting company, the company that hosts YouWorkForThem. We have been using them for around 7+ years now, and they have taken good care of us with our nagging and requests.

Well yesterday when we were doing some system fixes, we had a small melt down with some local files. This then led to us having to nag MediaTemple for a backup of the code files. To our luck, Media Temple and team Ryan were there to save the day and provide us with a backup of our file from a few days ago. Now we learned our lesson our end, but it was great to know Media Temple had our back, because we all make mistakes sometimes.

So if your looking for a good service to put your website on, go with Media Temple. They might not be the cheapest, but they are the best product when you add up all good server tech, knowledge and 24 hour service. For a few bucks more, you will be happy you spent it, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for!

PS: They have been hard at work with a new venture called VIRB®

Lordy Lordy, sometimes things just take awhile. We FINALLY fixed the bug on our store when some users login and get a blank page. After much treasure digging, we found the culprit and the bug is fixed. Now when you login, you should be greeted by your cozy account page. Sorry for all the troubles, and if you were on the store today sorry for any bugs or hitches while upgraded the system to the new files. Cheers!

buamai_press

My latest side project, Buamai, is now official. The goal of Buamai was to gather a select community of authors to begin creating an interesting image archive relative to art and design. The project is in its very first stages, so its fresh, small and just now getting off the ground but in the coming months it should develop into something to cure anyone’s boredom online. So try it today, and just start clicking from image to image, keyword to keyword, link to link.

windows7beta1

A while back I mentioned about a new version of Windows coming for all you PC using designers out there. Well a beta has been leaked if you want to be adventurous. The screen shots show it does look ‘ok’, but I still prefer Apple’s approach to os design (go figure).  (Zdnet)

When we (Cina & Young) started YouWorkForThem 6 years ago, we soon realized our time for client work was very thin. Over the years we have cut back, putting almost all of our focus and time into this little child of ours. But sometimes, we make time to help friends, fellow peers or big buckaroo clients with some design insight. This year, we helped out our peers David and Zoe from a very interesting company called Commonwealth. They are based out of Brooklyn, New York and do very interesting work for an array of clients using various mediums. You might call them Architects if you had to call them anything, but they are not creating architecture in the traditional sense. Read more…

new website youworkforthem

Thats right, we are currently working on a new site, yes the main youworkforthem site. As the current design has served us well for close to 6 years now, we are looking to upgrade it in speed and size to meet with todays world. The current design uses an insane amount of html tables, all of which will be replaced and removed. We are currently about 20% into the recode & redesign, but we want to hear what you have to say. What bothers you with the current site, anything you would love to have in new site? We would love to hear any features you would like to have added on. A little hint on whats to come: white, wider and an advancement of our current grid.

spiderinthewoods01.jpgAlways excellent work from French architects “R&Sie(n)“. In their work, built forms are never static. Materials and forms are temporal, becoming vegetal agglomerations or literally animated by raw animal strength. Also, check out their work and other intriguing work at Scripted by Purpose.
