I love posting this application, just after my Google cannot design rant. It makes me love, really love when designers ‘design’ applications, and not engineers and programmers. In this case it was created and designed by mega agency Fallon.

This little beauty called Skimmer is an application to help you manage all your time wasting community sites that you love to post on. It runs on Adobe Air, which I haven’t got too much into, but this app has struck a new interest in it. I have to say, this application is very nice and is very well designed. The code gets a little flaky for me sometimes with a black overlay screen hanging on me sometimes, but a quit restart solves that. I assume in due time it will be even smoother, but for a free app this is the hotness!

10_14_08_xavier_veilhan_17495I love seeing what people’s houses look like and how people live. It shows their personality in many different ways. The Selby is a collection of peoples interiors. Worth a visit. If I had time I could spend an hour on this site… easy!

Antenna (ARF) was around before the Age of FFFFOUNDs, consistently posting interesting objects, articles, quotes, and other visual stimuli in an uncanny, detailed manner. Needless to say, it’s good to see they’re back up and running again.

I have said it before and will say it again, Google cannot ‘visually’ design a damn thing. Android is ugly as all hell. The Gmail skins make me want to vomit. The Google front page is still circa 1996, hell even the browser favicon symbol is dog butt ugly. Don’t even get me started on that damn logo. I am not stating anything here that any Graphic Designer doesn’t already know, so I will save the rant.

But today, a friend sent me a nice article today that gives good insight into how the code trolls run the design show at Google (which I very well suspected). Douglas Bowman (a former Wired designer) writes all about his struggle as Google’s former Visual Design Leader.

It will never cease to amaze me how Google, will all this dreamland-dot-com style money still cannot get together design wise. They might be onto something here, but I am not buying it…

We’ve been working hard to produce some compelling new fonts. Here are the four most recent additions to our collection. Meet Matter, Merriam, Morricone, and Pineapple.

My man-crush Peter Saville gave an ever so existentialistic talk at D&AD. eye magazine has the write-up here.

This web page is imperfect. I apologize for all errors and omissions. Please do not read it as a sort of ultimate reference, because it isn’t. However, all type designers and typographers are hereby invited for drinks at my place in Montreal.”

Time and time again while researching fonts, we are dropped off by Google at this weird, but impressive resource of typographic history. We are baffled by how much information is here and how up to date the content is. It’s not a blog, its more like an abridged encyclopedia or a wikipedia just for type. Luc Devroye is the site’s keeper/professor/monk/archiver. Next time we’re in Montreal, we’ll definitely have to take him up on that drink.

NY Times has a nice article on David Weidman’s new book. It’s really good.

We just finished a short film/edit using various clips from our stock motion collections titled Moire. Composed of patterns and hypnotic illusions, Moire may result in acid flashbacks from your teenage childhood or slight migraines when given to much concentration. Available in HD.
