Here is a nice little Vimeo vid we were told to checkout this week. It features one of our favorites, Milton Glaser, doing a sketch and chatting away. A great break for your daily wonderings.
Matthew Anderson aka @Ampersanderson is someone I’ve followed for awhile now and has always been refreshing in his approach as well as his ethos. That combination seems rare these days so I’m happy to announce that Matthew is now seeking fulltime work in NYC. Get him while you can!

CNN just posted a iphone app on itunes, and its getting quite the stir of attention right now. They really revamped the idea of a news app for the iphone, with saving articles, live video* and the iReport features built into the app. I think the price is fairly nice, $2 for such a large amount of app development work and a nice app is a pretty good deal. BUT….it has ads, and when you read the reviews on itunes, its like a wild witch hunt right now. CNN, people do not like paying for an app, then getting ads. I know where you are coming from with this, cough cough business model. CNN, ads in a pay app is a no-no, and you just pissed off thousands of people in the first week of launch.
Second, what in the world is with the news articles being white text on a black background? Its bad, backwards and hard to read. Next update, give me articles on a white background or at least the option. I posted a quick mockup (invert) of the way the article SHOULD be read, black text on white. For the love of god, fix this, right now I don’t even want to read the articles. This is a news app, not a twitter app.

I keep seeing these designs make their way around all the image bookmarking sites, so I figure its time to post the source as well. This post shows numerous designs of municipal logos for towns in Japan. Very interesting and clean work, I could live with almost any of these as my town logo.

Typically I am not a fan of Flash websites anymore, but sometimes I change my mind. This new site, Thinking Space, designed by Hi-Res! changed my mind today, I like it. Very interesting interface and effect on the images.

Did you know Dazed and Confused magazine was on Flickr? Well I didn’t, and that was a nice surprise. Its full of some very inspirational fashion imagery, but watch out for a little fluff and celebrity hoopla around the edges. Enjoy

So halloween is next month, and I just found you one nice inspiration area for goblins, trolls, beasts, and other ghouls that you might want to draw. Check out Monster Memories for one large and strange archive of horror movie posters and more. Or you can always grab what you need from us, keyword Halloween.

I have been following Network Osaka‘s work for the past year on Flickr, and the work continues to impress upon each new posting. Their work is very retro, but at the same time a unique and modern twist on type and overall communication. It is designers like this that I would love to see redesign various parts of life (phones, UIs, etc), just to shake things up a bit.

Part & Parcel is a new studio from Brooklyn heavy hitters, Damien Correll and Garrett Morin.
Looks like It’s Nice That Issue 2 has been printed and is for pre-order. 128 pages with four main features, seven interviews and 50 pages of select work. Looks very well done and nice to see time and effort into a publication.
