In the modest village of Tanjung Morawa in North Sumatra, Indonesia, a pair of brothers have been hard at work in pursuit of a career in graphic design and typography. Youth often has a way of inspiring one to try anything — to teach oneself how to do anything — and that’s exactly how Firman Suci Ananda and Fajar Wahyu Pribadi got their start in typography. With a background in graphic design, his team of young men began with a simple script typeface that would eventually become a signature type design for their brand, an identity that remains fluid as they establish their footing along their journey.
One of Firman and Fajar’s most recent releases is Volkschaft, a stocky vintage script letter set. Heavy and distressed brush strokes are steeped in retro appeal, evoking an atmosphere of warmth and familiarity throughout every letter. Inspired by propaganda posters and graphics from decades long since passed, Volkschaft is a handcrafted, super bold type design with merry curls and a radiant flair.
Volkschaft is ideal for branding and product packaging that wants to add an element of retro authenticity. Screen printed t-shirts will instantly become long-worn and well-loved vintage classics while wearing this font. Volkschaft is also wonderful in displays, advertising, logos, badges, labels, and poster designs that need a decidedly aged presentation.
Volkschaft offers standard ligatures, stylistic alternates, and a set of 56 swashes for design versatility. Multilingual support extends to Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Pan African Latin, and Afrikaans for worldwide accessibility.
Firman and Fajar currently offer just five products on YouWorkForThem but if their work so far is any indiction, they’re going to see a lot of success with their typography.
