Jörn Oelsner is a prolific graphic designer and typographer whose insatiable passion for his field ignited well before he ever set foot on the campus of Design Factory International in Hamburg, Germany. Working with several design studios throughout Europe over the years, Jörn has relished the opportunity to take part in multiple and award-winning projects for an international audience. He’s worked with major global brands that include BMW, YouTube, Ernst & Young, Daimler-Benz, Deutsche Telekom, URW++ Design & Development. and Spanish Radio and Television Corporation (RTVE), just to name a few.

While he established his own studio, oedesign, in 2011, Jörn maintains a steady relationship with URW++. He offers multiple retail fonts through the foundry giant, including URW Geometric Extended, released in June of 2016 and recently added to YouWorkForThem.

URW Geometric Extended is a companion of URW Geometric, a sans serif family who sought its inspiration in the German geometric typefaces of the roaring 20s, yet it perfectly balances that classical influence with contemporary aesthetics and functionality.

URW Geometric Extended holds itself upright with a slightly wider stance than its predecessor, its proportions reaching greater optimization and improved balance overall. Its structure is clean and simplified on the surface, yet its robust character subtly reveals its strength, confidence, and authority. The stellar legibility of URW Geometric Extended makes this font family an excellent choice for a wide variety of projects that include headlines, editorials, body text, advertising, corporate communications, white papers, logos, branding, business cards, product packaging, web content, and mobile applications.

URW Geometric Extended is available in ten weights that include Thin, Extra Light, Light, Regular, Medium, Semi Bold, Bold, Extra Bold, Heavy, and Black, with corresponding obliques for each variation. OpenType features offers numerators, denominators, localized forms, standard ligatures, proportional figures, tabular figures, and stylistic alternates for incredible versatility. Jörn gave particular attention to the special glyphs to ensure they played harmonious accompaniment with the rest of the letterforms.

Multilingual support for URW Geometric Extended covers Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Vietnamese, Pan African Latin, Dutch, Afrikaans, Igbo Onwu, and Basic Greek, with a recently updated Basic Cyrillic script for extensive worldwide accessibility.

URW++ currently offers 464 products in their portfolio so you’re sure to find something for any project you may be working on. They’re adding new lettersets all the time so check back often to catch new releases!
