Based in Vienna, Austria, Ekke Wolf found his way into typography in the early 90s when he sought to create fonts that didn’t yet exist for the purposes of editorial design. The actual process of working on letters amazed him because of the sheer pleasure he experienced through his focus, the tranquil silence of his concentration, and the freedom of creation.
His latest release is Barack Pro, an experimental hand-drawn sans serif with a fun American edge. The layered design of this font is Ekke’s favorite part of its composition. Taking a cue from political campaigns, Barack Pro offers four distinct styles: Outline, Solid, Stars, and Stripes. The layered combination of these variations provide designers with a great range of flexibility for projects that take a political spin in any direction.
“I started from handmade scribbles which were the templates for the digitalization,” Ekke told us, explaining that it was a challenge to handle the uneven designs while editing the outlines.
Barack Pro has an element of mirth and casualness that allows designs to take a more lighthearted approach. Students running for class president will make impressive campaign posters with this font family, while history and government books designed for children will benefit from the joviality of Barack Pro. Educational posters centered around American government, civics, political and social movements will make good use of this type design’s patriotic narration.
Barack Pro is also perfect for American-themed apparel, merchandise, and handmade Americana crafting, as well as logos and branding for those wares. Greeting cards, printed programs, and party invitations for patriotic holidays and events will enjoy the easy inclusion of stars and stripes.
Barack Pro is packed with additional treats that include capitals to small caps, fractions, stylistic alternates, small caps, subscript, superscript, and tabular figures for extensive versatility. Its language support covers Basic Latin, Western European, Euro, Catalan, Baltic, Turkish, Central European, Romanian, Pan African Latin, and Dutch for global accessibility.
Barack Pro is on sale right now for 70% off of its regular price through February 28, 2017.
Ekke offers five products through YouWorkForThem although he has another release slated for mid-February. “I’m finishing the typeface family Ermis Pro,” said Ekke, “which has similar challenges as Barack Pro: Ermis is a handwritten old face with uneven outlines as well and a huge range of characters.”
With that on the way very soon, visit Ekke’s portfolio to check out the rest of his work and bookmark it so you won’t miss the release of Ermis Pro.
